I live by myself but I’m never alone. No, this isn’t the start to some ancient riddle, I just happen to attract spirits. Very nice, calming spirits, and none of those creepy ones you see in movies that are dressed like deranged nuns or something Stephen King would write about. The ones that hang around me are more like… hm, like Casper. Some are quiet, some are silly, and some like to nap a lot, but all of the ones that live in my house are wonderful.

I was recently promoted at work and will have to start traveling more than I was used to. I don’t want my friends to be alone as they do enjoy good company.

Q: How long will spirits stay?

A: Good question. I’ve found that if the spirit is treated well they’ll hang out for a while. I’ve had some be with me since as long as I can remember (shoutout to Paulina, the Russian spirit who likes to watch Schitt’s Creek with me). Others, I’ve found, are more restless. I will say that these spirits being sent out have a zest for “life,” which is why they haven’t moved on yet. Long answer made short - there’s no definite time. But if you want one to leave, read on for how to do so. 

Q: I’d like my spirit to leave. How do I do this?

A: Just let them know. Most likely they’ll come back to me as that has happened to others who have released their spirits.

Q: Why no returns?

A: I’ll do a one time spirit exchange within 15 days of the delivery (buyer pays shipping fees for box return and new one), but I don’t want to hurt any of their feelings so please be gentle with your approach. 

Q: If I keep the vial closed will the spirit stay inside?

A: No. The vial is like a sleeping bag and lets them rest easily as they transfer homes. They can leave anytime. I’ve heard some even like to stay in their vials (AKA - the napping spirits).

Q: How can they fit in the vial?

A: Spirits can shift into smaller spaces quite comfortably. One of my new spirits, a dog I believe to be a Blue Heeler, likes to hang out in a small jar I keep cotton balls in. 

Q: If the vial is broken or open upon receiving, does that mean the spirit has escaped?

A: Possibly. Some spirits, like humans, like to explore and can take the opening of the vial as an invitation to check out their new residence ahead of schedule. I do have a pleasant chat with each spirit ahead of their visit and let them know that it would be nice to stay put, even if the cork pops out, etc. I have found they are all polite and listen well. They too are excited to meet someone new!

Q: Are the spirits mean or scary?

A: Never. Like everyone else with this gift, you can tell when something doesn’t have the right energy. I have many rituals to ensure I only keep good company. 

Q: How long will it take to ship my spirit?

A: As soon as I can have a proper conversation with the spirit I think would best fit the receiver. Sometimes we all like to watch Real Housewives on Tuesday nights so Wednesdays on are usually a good time to prep their visit. 

Q: Is this real?

A: Did the moon landing really happen? Was Lee Harvey Oswald really JFK’s killer? Did Marisa Tomei deserve to win an Oscar in 1993? ‘Nuff said.
